3 Golden Nuggets From A Negotiation Guru’s Podcast

What is the single best podcast episode you listened to and why?

For me, it was: Claire Wasserman’s (Ladies Get Paid) interview with Alison Taffel Rabinowitz of the Finishing School.

The topic: How to negotiate (really effin’ well) Download cheatsheet here

Why?

🔵 Rabinowitz’ advice applies not just to negotiation but to life in general: Show your value. Make them love you first. Share your strategy. Your case studies, Your wins. Your KPI’s. Then talk numbers.

🔵 Rabinowitz’ reminds us to know what the market can bear: Script suggestion: ” I did some research and the range for this job is between x and y. I’m sure we can find a number where we will both be happy.” Golden.

🔵 Rabinowitz reminds us to never come across as overeager. (This can apply to dating too): Instead say “Give me a minute to get my notes.” Use this time to gather your thoughts. Take a breath. Once they say the number, respond with “I think that’s a great place to start. We will find a way to make this work.” One of her students got a $15K raise using this tactic.

The podcast has sadly been taken down, but inside this newsletter is two key things

The podcast has sadly been taken down, but here is my interview with Rabinowitz on the street.

“Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate.[Inaugural Address, January 20 1961]“— John F. Kennedy
