The best book I’ve read this year:

“Why We Sleep” by Matthew Walker.

Buried inside this gem are 4 statements that revolutionized the way I think about sleep.

Here are 4 things I learned that will change the way you think about sleep too:

Our body needs 3 kinds of sleep. One clears out the day’s cache of learning. One sends information for long term memory retrieval. If we short ourselves sleep, our memories suffer.

I was reminded of the years of getting up at 2:30am for work, and getting by on 4 hours of sleep. It’s no wonder my years in New York as a news anchor were a blur.

Sleep fends off diseases associated with old age such as ‘dementia.’ Whoa. My partner is a terrible sleeper, often staying up late watching TV. I regularly remind him of this fact.

Lack of sleep destroys your ability to control your emotions and understand those of others. I wake up at 5:30am every morning to work out. Its the only time I’m consistent. But it does explain my bad mood at that hour too.

This Friday, in the 9.24 edition of “What I Did Last Week (and what I’m looking forward to), I’ll share with 2,000 people the changes I made for better sleep once I became an entrepreneur.
