Who am I?

For the last 20 years, I’ve been a television anchor in New York City. I covered the financial markets from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. I’m also a child of Indian immigrants who built her own network to create this career. I realized that nobody teaches women to do this. So I created the platform and the space. www.joyadass.com

How it got started?

In 2010, I launched a documentary production company while still on the air for ABC. My business partner used to host monthly meetups for women in film and tv in Toronto. When we formed our company, she asked to host monthly meetups for women in New York as a business development exercise. The first event for what would become the Women’s Leadership Lab was July 2012.

By July 2013, 300 women were showing up to the events. I didn’t realize that an entire generation of Indian woman had grown up watching me on TV. Two things came to mind: I was in a place of responsibility. I interviewed business leaders on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange for the opening and closing bell each day. Why not connect the dots?

How programming works?

Four ways

Peer mentoring calls. Women are challenged with finding a sounding boards and mentors for their professional challenges. Its not in their family circles or social circles. Professional women CAN bring their challenges to this platform. Members are broken down by industry group and bring their challenges to this weekly call to crowdsource solutions.
Expert mentoring calls. Each week, I bring in a CEO, author, or thought leader to speak to a certain aspect of business. Lineup of speakers through November here
Events. I host conversation driven dinners and events. These are not social dinners. They are designed to drive conversation about business. I ask probing questions that spur self discovery, self investigation. I host 8 women dinners in new cities to recruit new members. Currently, Napa, Philadelphia and Washington DC are lined up.
Public Speaking Masterclass. As a TV anchor, the speaking and the confidence came naturally to me. I filming videos each week to publish thought leadership. More women came asking for training as they are the face of their business or want to command a room with authority. By request and by demand, I formalized the teachings into a 6 week Masterclass, one on one coaching, spot and on demand coaching
